Exploring Marina Bay and Singapore Flyer is impressive. This is the very modern, clean and wealthy side of town. Trying to find some food here wasn’t so easy. We settled for Indian cuisine on the first floor. S$24 per person, buffet only, which we didn’t realise until we sat down. The curry was authentic, meaning only vegetarian. It was very good and we had been starving, but for the price of 5 hawker meals…

Fish Spa
Today we stuck our feet into some water containing a few dozen fish, presumably a sub species of piranha, that feed on dead skin. They are in actual fact Garra rufa fish. It is a strange sensation and feels like a mix between feeling bubbles and a fine vibration. It takes a little while to get used to, especially when there’s a lot of fish. To up the intensity, you simply put your feet into the spa with the largest fish. These feel a little different, more like actual gentle bites. There was a bully fish in the spa that was attacking our feet. Definitely worth trying a fish spa…

Crab Carnage in Singapore
First dinner in Singapore had to be the Chilli Crab, so I did some extensive research and we headed to Clarke Quay to eat at a restuarant, Jumbo. Chilli crab with some deep fried sweet bread to soak up the sauce. Don’t mind if I do.

Bird park, Singapore
Albeit very touristy, this was a worthwhile trip. It is easily reached via MRT (red line) and bus and you can spend about 3 hours there. Go see the show, it is well presented and entertaining. For S$39 you get admission and also admission to Singapore zoo.

D.I.S.A.S.T.E.R
So I burst into tears at the airport, and this was just in Melbourne… Got to the airport with my cousin, my sisters plus 1 x BF (Lionel had already caught his Jetstar flight, and Mum and Dad were due to leave the following day on Emirates). This was where the problem started – checking in. Turns out when I had asked Emirates to cancel my Singapore to Melbourne flight a few weeks ago (when we had decided to embark on this epic adventure!), they had in fact, cancelled the whole flight (Melb to Singapore and return). I was unaware of this until I got to the check in counter,…

Arrived in Singapore
Great flight with Jetstar. No problems at customs with my bag containing 80% deet repellent capable of killing a small animal, then straight through customs with a friendly officer who even attempted to speak some German to me. Catching a train in Singapore is child’s play. Everything is excellently labelled, there is maps and little lights everywhere to guide you. Best of all it is cheap! After I checked in on behalf of the family, I met up with Garry. He moved here 3 months ago for work and took me out for a night of food, humidity and lukewarm tiger beer. First stop was a fancy hotel bar, Lantern,…

April 9th! Time to Start Traveling South East Asia
So today’s the day the adventure begins! 1st stop is Singapore for a family, luxury holiday. Mum’s taking Dad to his birth country for his 60th birthday. Little does he know that Lionel, my two younger sisters (plus one bf), and myself will be already in Singapore to surprise him at the airport! For the past few months, we’ve all been avoiding Dad so as not to spoil the surprise – believe me, it’s difficult; we keep chatting about things we’ll do in Singapore, things we’ll eat in Singapore, things we’ll drink in Singapore etc. and then realising Dad is in the room and then changing the sentence to ‘oh,…
