We’ve now finished our six day tour from Dalat to Hoi An with an Easy Rider guide. Lionel rode his own bike while I rode on the back of our guide, Xuan’s bike. Amazing experience with lots of cool stops along the way. We did a bit of a loop around Dalat which was good as we hadn’t seen anything around Dalat in the previous two days on account of me throwing up from food poisoning. Â It was a very popular route with other Easy Riders and we kept bumping…

Kep, The Sleepy Colonial Ghost Town
We spent a few days in the sleepy Kep and explored some of its charm. The best way to do that is by riding around and exploring. That is exactly what we did. There are heaps of broad and empty streets and back streets to explore. A lot of the ghost town feeling comes form the many half finished and run down French colonial villas. These are tucked away behind jungle in the most beautiful spots. The one below had an incredible view and we sat on the roof for a while. Some are being renovated and others are doomed to collapse in the future. We were told that land…

The Best Road in Cambodia – Bokor Hill Station
We loved yesterday’s day of exploring the area on our bike and decided to stay one more day in Kampot and ride up to Bokor Hill Station, north-west of Kampot. The casino complex that is already open was quite an eyesore on the way up. This was a 41km ride to the top, however the road here was in better condition than roads back in Australia. After 8km, we turned into the Preah Monivong National Park, paid our 2000 Riel entrance fee and off we went. The ride up is beautiful, lots of very nice corners, perfect for a motorbike. There was not much traffic and the view quickly became…

Koh Rong – 7km Beach
Day 3 was finally Beach Day! Along with Seb & Evelyn, we got up early (ish for us!), and left before 9am to beat the midday heat. It was a 1.5-2hr walk to the other side of the island and to the mythical ‘7km White Beach’ following Beast’s instructions; – walk along the beach for about 15 minutes – when you see the white chair & table, walk towards it – walk along the jungle – turn left when you hit the big, wide, red, dirt track – walk for a long time – turn right at the Khmer house – walk for a long time – turn left at…

Koh Rong – Kayaking through a Village & a Storm
On our first full day at Koh Rong we took a kayak and kayaked along the coast up to the river, where a village is situated. Everywhere we looked, there were kids yelling out ‘Hello, hello,’ and waving furiously at us. I can’t lie – I felt like a mini celebrity as we floated up the river waving and grinning at everyone. Then as we were heading back home, we noticed a storm rolling in and as there was no way around it, so we just surged ahead into it.

Visiting Angkor Whaaaat?! With 1.5 Million Tourists
RISE AND SHINE, Tomb Raider! On Saturday we woke at 4am to get to Angkor Wat by sunrise and somehow felt special, like we would be the only people getting up so early to see a pile of rocks in the morning sun. Well, not exactly. Our Tuk Tuk driver took us to the entrance of the temple’s archeological park where we were met by tour buses, minivans, a thousand Tuk Tuks and a few poor souls who had the romantic idea to “do the temples by bicycles” in peace and solitude. Then there was the sea of tourists fluttering to get their tickets. US$20 dollars per person per day.…

Diving to join the under water world in Koh Tao
Our main reason for coming to Koh Tao was to do some diving. I’ve wanted to learn how to dive for a while now. After our epic journey to Koh Tao, we were tired and a bit discouraged. However, after speaking to Robin at Sairee Cottage Diving, we signed up to start the course that night with some theory and 3 chapters of homework! The next morning we began our classroom theory with Robin and then got taught on the equipment by Neil. After lunch we jumped into the water with our gear at Mango Bay to do our confined dive with all our mask and emergency skills. We had…

Trang night market
A great way to spend an evening or three in Trang! There is an abundance of really cheap and fantastic food, nice people and a lack of tourists. This is a very charming place, Thailand that is not suffering from Tourism poisoning. Go to the one near the station, there is another one further up near the clock tower, however we enjoyed the one near the station more.
